The laka glacier trek starts from mcleodganj. The snowline trek from Dharamshala is very close. After walking only 13 kilometers you reach the snowline at Laka Glacier during the summer time. It is situated in the Dhauladhar Range and is in the midst of very beautiful hills,
it is the most popular and beautiful trek that you can do in a short period. The glacier is filled with ice during the pre-monsoon period (March to July), but from July the glaciers begin to melt and the glacier does not have ice during the post monsoon period and you see moraine.
Arrive at McLeodganj and start the Laka glacier trek from the village of BhagsuNag near McLeodganj. After the breakfast meal, your trek will start at 9:30 am. The path is from the top of the villages, then climbing starts. Head upstream through ancient forests of cedar oak and rhododendron trees, and see the Dhauladhar Range and the mighty and almost vertical mountains of the Kangra Valley and enjoy the sunset and dinner & overnight stay in tents at Triund campsite.
The next day In the morning, a new adventure waits for you. After breakfast, you will start walking towards the Laka glacier. You will trek along the glacial moraine to reach the snowline, from where you will have a glorious view of the Dhauladhar range. Walk down to the Laka Glacier and enjoy the snowy mountain, click pictures of the entire scene. The glacier remains in snow during March to May and then starts to melt monsoon. Spend some time in the glacier and then return back to laka glacier camp for an overnight stay in the tents.
